The Jews didn't have problems with divorcing in the case of sexless marriages like we do. They called a spouse who refused to change "rebellious." Likewise, first-century Christians didn't share our modern hangups about divorce.
If Christians knew the right to divorce a sexless spouse was in the Old Testament and repeated in the New Testament, it would exert tremendous peer-pressure on sexless spouses to deal with being unable to love their mate intellectually, emotionally, and sexually.
Clear teaching on divorce empowers loving spouses to bring the problem out into the open without personal shame. They could then insist that the game playing stop and real changes from the heart begin to take place.
