In 1981, my mother, Ocie Lue Snodgrass, commissioned Mary Moudy to do an artistic calligraphy of Proverbs 31:10-31. Soon after that I taught a series of classes on the Woman of Great Price for the women in our congregation. We finished the class with the ladies meeting at my home to do glass paintings for them to frame their calligraphies.
This first painting is by my mother. The flowers around the border are the Rose of Sharon from the Song of Solomon. The flower grows in a multitude of colors including double tones. This enabled the women to chose a color that harmonized with their decor.
I hung mine in my bedroom where I frequently stopped and read it while I was making the bed. Several years later, I taught "The Secret of the Woman of Great Price" at a conference in Seattle. I probably would never have learned her secret if I hadn't framed the calligraphy and read it so many times. Remember, God told the Israelites to write scriptures on their doorposts.
Deuteronomy 11:18-22: "18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth."
I'm in the process of making the audio of "The Secret of the Woman of Great Price" available on YouTube.
I recently started giving couples who complete my Personality and Sexuality Breakthrough Coaching program the Woman of Great Price Calligraphy, which led to this article about a better title would be the "Couple of Great Price." I give both the husband and the wife their own calligraphies to frame.
Several of my students shared with me about framing their calligraphies. One woman hung it in her kitchen where she would see it every day. Another hung it over her bed. The last calligraphy in the article was done by a recent client who said she put it in her bathroom so she can read it while she is getting ready for her day. She chose to not paint her flowers as she liked the delicate India ink drawings. She turned the paper from the frame around and painted it the color of her choice just using acrylic craft paint.
